SMPI's Founder

Sheilah Mitchell

Linda "Linzi" Zuker

Herself a fascinating person, Sheilah Mitchell is the founder/CEO of Fascinating People, the theme for a TV show, syndicated column, book and website (www.FascinatingPeople.com) that profiles fascinating people from all walks of life throughout the global community.  The idea for Fascinating People was borne out of a conversation with a friend during the time she lived in Belize CA, about how to attract men, “Ya gotta be FASCINATIN’, MON.”  Since then, what began as an amusing anecdote later became its inspiration.

Sheilah epitomizes the quote, “Seeking the best in others, we find the best in ourselves.”  Wherever she appears, she exudes femininity surrounding herself with flowers from her garden, aromatherapy, herbal teas and remedies, precious canine companions called Sophia and Jimmy, books on every subject, good friends and an assortment of exquisite scarves and jewelry she imports from Paris with longtime friend Lorraine Dillon Vidal. In addition to her Fascinating People ventures, Sheilah is quite busy these days as the CEO of SMPI (Sheilah Mitchell Productions Inc.), The Roundtable for Peace and The Ultimate Lifestyle.

Sheilah, born in Memphis, TN, was raised in Las Vegas, NV, where she was introduced at an early age of only four years old to the performances of such greats as Louis Armstrong, Pearl Bailey, Elvis Presley, Don Adams, Dean Martin, Patti Page, Frank Sinatra, et al.  One of her mother’s favorites, actor Donald O’Connor, crowned her Junior Prom Queen.  Her grandmother, Jewel Williams, was a nurse to several luminaries whom she introduced to the young Sheilah.  Her patients, Mr. and Mrs. Ripley, enjoyed when she would accompany her grandmother to their home and shared with her the virtue of grace, patience, living with and respecting nature as well as how to get wild birds to feed from your hand or perch on your shoulder. (The Ripley’s son-in-law, Don B. Tatum, took over for the illustrious Walt Disney after he passed away) So it was only natural that early on Sheilah learned the importance of living in harmony with nature, compassionately caring and helping others, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  The Diet for a New America video created by John Robbins, heir to the Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Chain, reinforced her beliefs and consciousness about taking care of our bodies and the world in which we live. To this day, she ardently espouses natural healing and the elimination of caffeine, sugar, animal and dairy products from one’s diet.

Beginning her career as an actress (member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1975, IMDB), fashion model and yoga instructor, Sheilah’s floral design studio and gift shop in Beverly Hills distinguished her as the first woman to be given the contract for decorating the Academy Awards Ball. As a businesswoman, she was fortunate to have been mentored by John Pavlik, the current Director of Communications for The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences; actor Ed Asner; renowned author, founder of the Pollution Index and UN speaker, Hazel Henderson; Willis Harmon of IONS (The Institute of Noetic Sciences); legendary filmmaker/director Francis Ford Coppola, Producer Gray Frederickson and Brian Clement, founder of The Hippocrates Health Institute in W. Palm Beach, FL. Currently, she is an actress, producer, screenwriter and author.

January 31, 2005 commemorated the 34th Anniversary of the launch date of Apollo 14 and the February 5th landing on the moon of her former spouse, Astronaut Capt. Edgar D. Mitchell, PhD, Lunar Module Pilot and the sixth man to have walked on the moon, and so Sheilah wanted to surprise him with something special for Father’s Day.  She transferred tapes that he had authored and narrated into three CDs:  To the Moon and Back I – An Extraordinary Journey, To the Moon and Back II – Return to Home Planet, and The View from Space – A Message of Peace.   The Mitchells’ 20 year old son, Adam, a filmmaking student on the Dean’s List at FSU, is featured in the new introduction of the CDs, that Sheilah heard when the Mitchells first met.  Through Edgar, Sheilah had the opportunity to meet many fascinating people, like Oprah Winfrey, John Denver, Dr. Joel Elkes, Willis Harman, Charles Tart, Diane Cirincioni, Dr. Jerald Jampolsky, Dan Millman, Raymond Moody, Mercury astronauts, “moonwalkers” and NASA contributors, and the Board of Directors of The Institute of Noetic Sciences, which Edgar founded.

Although no longer married, both Edgar and Sheilah have not allowed anything to interrupt their mutual quest for peace in the world.  Their friend, Dr. Deepak Chopra recently congratulated SMPI for its efforts towards peace (Sheila’s website, www.TheRoundTableForPeace.com is currently in development) and stated that he will do whatever possible to help and to promote the three CDs on his website, www.PeaceIsTheWayGlobalCommunity.org and at his Chopra Centers.”

A devoted mother and grandmother, Sheilah travels between her home in Boca Raton, FL to St. Louis, MO where her other son Richard, his wife Julie, two grandsons, R.J., and Henry James and granddaughter Jane Anne reside.  Embracing everything in her life with joy, Sheilah truly lives her favorite motto, “Counting my blessings, no matter what!”
